Former Gilmer Buckeyes WR/QB Manuel Johnson, who led his team to the 2004 Class 3A Division II state championship with a perfect record of 16-0, was drafted Sunday afternoon by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the NFL draft as a wide receiver.

He was the 229th pick overall.

Johnson recently completed his collegiate career with the Oklahoma Sooners and played in the BCS title game against the Florida Gators in January in Miami.

He was at home in Gilmer when the selection was announced. The Mirror will have more on this in Wednesday's issue.

He is the first former Buckeye drafted since Kenny Pettway was selected in 2005 by the Houston Texans, also in the seventh round (227th overall).
