Through a commitment to teaching excellence and innovation, continued faculty development, student success and exceptional scholarship, the UT Tyler faculty fellows will assist the center in achieving its branded initiatives: academic innovation, data analytics, service learning and undergraduate research.
They will be available for consolation and provide active learning opportunities to assist other faculty, adjunct faculty and teaching assistants. The fellows also will be responsible for promoting excellence, innovation and student success across the university. Fellows were selected from a blind review process by three external higher education institutions.
“Here at UT Tyler, we want to establish a community of scholars dedicated to teaching excellence, innovation and student success, as well as promoting excellence in scholarship,” said Dr. Scott Marzilli, assistant vice president for academic innovation and student success. “This inaugural group of faculty fellows will help us with that goal under the center’s Faculty Fellowship Program.”
The 2014 inaugural faculty fellows are listed by the distinct initiative areas.
Academic Innovation: Dr. Colleen Swain, professor and School of Education director; Dr. Julie Delello, assistant professor of education; and Dr. Barbara Ross Wooldridge, associate professor of marketing.
Data Analytics: Dr. Venugopal Gopalakrishna-Remani, assistant professor of management.
Service Learning: Dr. Nary Subramanian, assistant professor of computer science; and Dr. Colleen Marzilli, assistant professor of nursing.
Undergraduate Research: Dr. Christina Graves, assistant professor of mathematics.
Each received a $2,500 developmental stipend and an award in the amount of $1,500. The appointment is renewable for up to three years.

A “Distinguished Faculty Fellow” lifelong appointment will be designated at the conclusion of a successful three-year initial appointment.
Through the UT Tyler Center for Academic Excellence and Innovation, UT Tyler faculty, adjunct faculty and teaching assistants may expand their knowledge in the areas of service learning, academic innovation, undergraduate research and data analytics by developmental workshops, peer observations and consultation. Faculty members will also have the opportunity to integrate both concepts of research and teaching.
The center also provides opportunities to develop their skillsets and the information needed to facilitate student engagement and active learning throughout the university.
The center is an extension of the university’s Faculty Learning Communities.
