The current influenza outbreak has resulted in the cancellation and/or re-scheduling of end-of-school-year Interscholastic League activities for all students/children throughout the entire State of Texas.

The media hype on the subject has created a predictable "the sky is falling" reaction in many sectors. The biggest impact on our museum schedule is the closing of schools with uncertainty about the resumption of classes.

The schedule of the proposed participants in our May 16th museum event, many of whom are students or teachers, is already adversely impacted.

We decided early on to make the 2009 year a low budget activity in respect to our loyal sponsors and the economic situation and not ask for sponsor dollars. 2009's event is all-volunteer and totally dependent on revenues that might have been received the day of the event. Under normal conditions we might expect to generate sufficient revenues to cover expenses, but without up-front money, there is too much financial risk for the museum, all things considered.

Because of the scheduling conflicts and uncertainties arising out of the flu outbreak, Flight of the Phoenix Aviation Museum announces the cancellation of its May 16th 2009 Armed Forces Day Open House/Fly-In activities.
