“The Upshur County Literacy Program is pleased to announce that our recent fundraiser, the Corporate Spelling Bee for the Literacy, was the most successful ‘Bee’ to date,” said Sue Williams, literacy program director. This was our sixteenth annual event, and the net profit was $31,077.

“Our deepest thanks go to each person involved — from the spelling teams and sponsors, to those who attended, to those who donated and to those who bought auction items,” she said.

“The credit goes to all of you, our community, for stepping up and coming to our aid. Thanks to all of you, we can continue to serve those who wish to help themselves,” she said. “Every student who improves his or her basic skills in reading, math or language arts, or obtains a GED, becomes a better member of society. We, the staff and volunteer tutors, are very proud to be even a small part of this achievement.”
