June 2, 2014 (TYLER, TX) – Eight Walgreens stores in Tyler, Athens, Kilgore, Henderson and Palestine will begin a summer donation drive on behalf of Meals on Wheels Ministry this week. Customers are invited to drop their cash donations into bins located at the participating stores’ pharmacies and check-out counters throughout the month of June. This is the third year for Walgreens to conduct the drive, and this year store managers have set a goal of $3,000.00, an amount that would provide hot, home delivered meals to two seniors for an entire year.
“We believe that it is very important for Walgreens to help support people in need of help, and it’s a priority of ours to give back to the communities in which we work,” said Brett Mcanally, Store Manager of Walgreens in Tyler, located at Broadway and Rieck Road. “We work with the senior population every day, and whatever we can do to make their lives more pleasant, we are more than happy to do.”
Customers can participate by making cash donations at any of the eight participating Walgreens stores during the month of June. In Tyler, donations may be made at the Walgreens stores located at Rieck Road and Broadway; 5th Street and Broadway; Highway 64 and Loop 323; and at Troup Highway and Loop 323. The other four stores are located in Athens at 1007 East Tyler Street; in Kilgore at 701 US Highway 259 North; in Henderson at 2126 US Highway 79 South; and in Palestine at 2201 Texas 256 Loop.
“We are so grateful for businesses like Walgreens that take a personal responsibility for supporting local organizations like Meals on Wheels Ministry,” said Mike Powell, President/CEO of Meals on Wheels. “Not only has Walgreens become a financial supporter of ours, the local stores also support our clients by providing flu shots to homebound seniors in need.”
Meals on Wheels Ministry currently serves over 3,000 seniors and homebound individuals in 30 communities across six counties including Gregg, Henderson, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood counties. Meals on Wheels Ministry is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing good nutritious meals, daily contacts, and other support services that enable senior citizens and disabled persons to remain independent and living in their own homes as long as possible.
