Alexis Marie Williams will reign over the 77th annual East Texas Yamboree October 15-18 with Randy Duke, the Yamboree President, crowning her in the performances on Wednesday, Oct. 15, and Thursday, Oct. 16.

The combined ticket sales by the seven candidates raised $130,614 for the Yamboree Association.

Ticket sales were tabulated at First National Bank, Gilmer, beginning at 5 p.m. last Friday afternoon. FNB President Kelly Stretcher hosted a gathering of friends and family of the candidate as tellers counted up the money. He then turned things over to President Duke, who announced the names of the Queen and Princess just after 5:30 p.m.

Princess is Jaden Green, the daughter of Eric and Kelsie Bell and Edd and Karina Green, who represents the Lions Club. She is a senior at Gilmer High School and Mason Maxwell will be her escort. She is the granddaughter of Jim and Carolyn Weber and Edsel and Connie Green.

Queen Alexis is the daughter of Brian and Irma Williams. Brian is the member of the Williams family, descendants of Pack and Myrtle Williams, who has furnished not only four Yamboree Queens but four Yamboree presidents as well. In recent years, Irma Williams has directed the coronation and coordinated the activities of the various persons responsible for the dancers, the visiting duchesses, and the children’s court.

“Miss Myrtle” Williams started the family off right at the first Yamboree. Being a member of the Twentieth Century Club in 1935, she assisted her friends, Georgia Tucker Laschinger and Elizabeth Bassel Crosby, when they directed the first three Yamboree coronations and pageants.

Pack and Myrtle’s son, Don Williams, Alexis’s great-grand father, was the president in 1950 and the oldest surviving president during the 75th anniversary celebration two years ago.

When his daughters Nancy and Donna came of age in 1966 and 1967, Mattie Ruth Williams, Don’s wife and Twentieth Century Club member, insisted the girls would be candidates of the club. And so it has continued until the present.

Queen Alexis represents the Twentieth Century Club as did her aunt, Tracy Williams Esquivel, when she reigned in 1992. Robert Henson will serve as her escort.

In addition, Great Uncle Steve Williams presided in 1980, her grandfather, Paul David Williams, in 1985, and her father in 2004.

In addition to Queen Alexis and Princess Jaden, five girls will serve as Ladies-in-Waiting.

Peyton Carter, the daughter of Donnie and Charlotte Carter, represents the Kiwanis Club and is a senior at Gilmer High School. Her grandparents are Pat Ellison, Ralph Ellison, Jimmy and Dorothy Maxwell, and the late William Golden. McLane Carter will escort her.

Savanna Nicole Jenkins represents the Bluebonnet Literary Club, is a senior at Harmony High School, and is the daughter of Chris and Luci Jenkins. She is the granddaughter of Dr. David and Melba Jenkins and Gary and Amy Patterson. Zachery Ebert will be her escort.

Lauren Hailey Jones, the daughter of Joe Bob Jones and Patty Jones, represents the Rotary Club. This senior at Gilmer High School will be escorted by Tanner Harrison.

Bayley Noel LeGrand represents Beta Sigma Phi. Her parents are Tim LeGrand and Beverly LeGrand, with Sandra Richardson and Carol Martindale her grandmothers. Sean Ray will serve as her escort.

Erica Wesley represents the Iris Garden Club and is a senior at Gilmer High School. She is the daughter of Roderick Wesley and Stephanie Bolden. DeMarco Boyd will be her escort.

Following the announcement of the results at First National Bank, a dinner was held at Silver Alley Events for the court and parents.
