According to the Department of Public Safety, Brody Stuart of Gilmer died at a Tyler hospital while undergoing surgery for injuries received when the Ford Mustang he was driving (in second photo) was hit head-on by a Mitsubishi Eclipse drived by Anibal Munoz, 30, of Winnsboro.
The Munoz vehicle hydroplaned into Stuart’s path. Munoz was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Stuart’s car, Haley Blackstone, was treated at ETMC Gilmer and released with a broken arm.
Two passengers in the Munoz vehicle, Francisco Munoz, 44, and Rodolfo Macario, 29, are in a Longview hospital. Stuart and Miss Blackstone were both Harmony cheerleaders and had gone to get a drink during a cheerleading camp at the school.
Responding agencies included the Gilmer Fire Department, Harmony Fire Department, Holly Lake Fire Department, Champion EMS and ETMC EMS. The wreck occurred at about 8:05 a.m. on Hwy. 154, about a half mile inside the Wood County line.
