Kilgore College is holding auditions for students in the 5th-8th grades to join the Kilgore College Children’s Chorus.
Open to boys and girls (boys’ voices unchanged), auditions for the choir will be held in the Anne Dean Turk Fine Arts Center by appointment only.
Early registration by Aug. 1 allows parents a discounted tuition of $100 for the entire semester, with regular registration being $125 afterward.
There are a number of partial tuition scholarships available for those with financial need thanks to Ana-Lab Corporation, General Dynamics, Austin Bank, Texas Bank & Trust and generous individual donors.
According to Dr. Jim Taylor, KC’s director of choral activities and director of the community children’s chorus, the choir “gives the students an opportunity to fall in love with music through enthusiastic and artistically expressive performances of choral music.”
Students auditioning must be able to “carry a tune” but do not need to be able to read music or have any musical experience
“Our repertoire includes folk songs, church anthems, classical masterpieces and lighter, fun songs composed for the children’s chorus,” Taylor said.
Rehearsals for the chorus will be Thursdays from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. each week beginning Aug. 28 at Longview’s Trinity Episcopal Church located at 906 Padon St.
The KCCC’s fall concert, just before Thanksgiving, will be in conjunction with the East Texas Community Chorus which Taylor also directs.
The chorus performs concerts at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview and has performed on numerous occasions with the Longview Symphony Orchestra.
The KCCC was part of the World Hunger Concert held at the Belcher Center on the LeTourneau University campus last January and is part of the annual Masterworks Concert presented by KC each spring.
