and KTAL-TV Become Weather-Ready Nation Ambassadors
The National Weather Service in Shreveport, Louisiana, is proud to announce three new partners that are now Weather-Ready Nation Ambassadors: Shreve Memorial Library, the Bossier Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP), and KTAL-TV. Of particular note, KTAL-TV is the first television station in the state of Louisiana to become a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador. The goal of the National Weather Service's Weather-Ready Nation initiative is increasing the nation's weather-readiness so that the country will be better prepared to protect, mitigate, and respond to and recover from weather-related disasters. The ultimate goal is to save lives and property; one of the core missions of the National Weather Service. The NWS works towards this goal by working together with other government agencies, emergency managers, researchers, the media, the insurance industry, non-profits, the private sector, and many others.
The Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador initiative is an effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation's readiness against extreme weather, water, and climate events. As a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador, the Bossier Parish Library will work with the National Weather Service to strengthen the area's resilience against extreme weather by taking a leadership role in educating the public on weather hazards and promoting weather awareness activities in the community.
