Gilmer ISD has released its calendar for the 2009-2010 school year.

The first semester will have 87 days, and the second semester will have 91 days. There will be a total of 187 days, including 179 student days and eight teacher work or staff days.

The first semester will begin with a teacher work day on Aug. 14, followed by staff development days from Aug. 17 to 21.

The first six weeks for students will begin Aug. 24 and end on Oct. 2.

Labor Day, Sept. 7, will be a school holiday.

Oct. 15 and 16 will be student holidays for the Yamboree.

The second six weeks grading period will start Oct. 5 and end on Nov. 20.

Nov. 23 will begin the third six weeks, with schools closed Nov. 25 to 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The third six weeks will end Jan. 15.

The Christmas holiday will be Dec. 21 through Jan. 1, 2010.

Jan. 18 is a school holiday and Jan. 19 is a teacher work day. The fourth six weeks begins on Jan. 20 and ends on Feb. 26.

The school observes spring break by being closed March 15 to 19, and observes Good Friday on April 2.

The fifth six weeks starts on March 1 and ends on April 16.

The final six weeks will start on April 19 and end on June 3. School will be out May 31 for Memorial Day.

Graduation will be Friday, June 4, which will also be a teacher work day.
