Ryan Dougherty of Prairiland High School was awarded the top prize at the 53rd annual East Texas Regional Science Fair at Kilgore College March 3.

Dougherty’s project, “Driving Yourself to Deaf,” was awarded the top prize out of 156 projects from 30 elementary, junior high and elementary schools represented at the fair.

He will be awarded a trip to the national science fair in Los Angeles, CA.

In addition, the top finishers in each of four categories qualify to attend the state science fair in San Antonio March 31 – April 1.

Specialty awards were given for projects in engineering, psychology, chemistry, computer science and environmental science.

Local science fair winners from area schools (grades 5-12) were invited to attend the competition.
