The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles baseball team opened up conference play with a pair of wins over Paris Junior College last weekend.
Northeast had a great start in the series with a 5-3 win over Paris. Eagles’ Nelson Torres opened up the scoring for the team with a home run in the top of the fourth, tying the game 1-1.
Paris took the lead once more in the sixth after collecting another run. But the Eagles responded with two runs of their own in the seventh. With two outs, Jhosmel Rodriguez hit a hard ground ball and reached base on an error, scoring Ryan Dudley. Brady Batten singled to left field scoring Darien Simms. Northeast snagged the lead, 3-2.
In the top of the eighth, the Eagles took the lead for good after Justin Bundy hit a two-run homer. Paris was unable to comeback for a win in the bottom of the ninth, ending the game 5-3.
In game two, the Eagles fell to Paris 8-6 late in the game. Darien Simms had 3 hits for Northeast, and Chandler Dean collected 3 RBI.
Paris jumped on the board early in the game, earning three runs in the top of the first. But Northeast quickly matched Paris, knotting the game 3-3. The Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the third after Dean and Simms both singled and rounded up two runs for the team. Both teams collected a run in the fifth, but the Eagles couldn’t secure a win after Paris picked up three more runs in the seventh.
Northeast opened up game three with a big inning in the first. The Eagles scored two runs after Brady Batten doubled on a line drive to center field. Batten and Chase Talbot both crossed the plate for the team on the same wild pitch by Paris.
The Eagles cushioned their lead in the third inning after Kyle Moos homered to left field, sending Batten home as well. Despite picking up three runs, Paris failed to get the most out of their seven hits, falling to the Eagles 6-3.
