The Lady Buckeyes dominated their division of the District 15-4A track meet at Bullard Wednesday, April 12, scoring 213 points. Rival Bullard was second with 125, Kilgore third at 108, while Chapel Hill in fourth (69), Gladewater at fifth (62), and Spring Hill at sixth (21) trailed the leaders badly. The Lady Buckeyes won so overwhelmingly largely because of the large haul of points they collected by willing all three relays.

The Buckeyes, the junior varsity boys and junior varsity girls were in the opposite circumstances as the Buckeye varsity and the girls JV finished fifth while the J.V. boys were sixth.

Gilmer’s girls placed first in the 4 X 100 meter (sprint) relay in 48.73. The team consisted of Sommer Hines, Annie Stevenson, Dymond Clark, and Mecii Griffin.

Hines and Stevenson combined with Crystal Fluellen and Ty Waters to win the 4 X 200 meter relay in 1:45.37, while it was Griffin, Waters, Fluellen, and Latavia Anderson who won the 4 X 400 (mile) relay in 4:07.74.

Joining them with first place finishes were Sommer Hines in the 100 meter dash in 12.71, Mecii Griffin, in the 400 meter dash (59.10), and Logan Parish in the 800 meter run, 2:28.25.

Annie Stevenson took first place in the 300 meter hurdles (46.17).

Bonnie Clifton placed first in two events: the shot put where she threw for 35’ 8.25” and in the discus where her first place toss went 112 feet and 3 inches. Another first in the field events went to Mesha Shead with her 5 foot high jump.

Brandon Legan had the only first place finish for the varsity boys with his vault of 13 feet, 0 inches in the Pole Vault.

The JV boys finished with 31 points and the JV Girls with 58.
