The Kilgore College Ranger softball team will host its fifth annual “StrikeOut Cancer” games Saturday, April 22, in Kilgore.

The Rangers will play Bossier Parish Community College at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Ballpark at KC Commons with pre-game ceremonies beginning at 12:45 p.m.

A pregame ceremony will honor softball players’ family members, as well as KC employees, who have fought or are fighting cancer.

KC is looking for donors to pledge $50 for each strikeout that KC pitchers throw during the doubleheader.

There will also be a raffle of pink softballs autographed by this year’s team, and special T-shirts will be for sale at the games.

The StrikeOut Cancer event is an initiative between the American Cancer Society and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association to raise awareness and funds to fight cancer.

Since starting the StrikeOut Cancer initiative more than 10 years ago, NFCA membership teams have raised tens of thousands of dollars to support the fight against cancer.

In addition to financial support, this initiative has provided a platform to raise awareness for breast cancer as well as support for women's cancer research.

If you would like to contribute to this event, please contact head coach Leslie Messina at 903-983-8648 or lmessina@kilgore.edu.
