‘A Day in the Life’ seminar will feature licensed clinical social worker Nov. 15-16

Kilgore College’s Randolph C. Watson Library staff will host its third “A Day in the Life” seminar featuring Tina Rushing, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Rushing has more than 20 years’ experience as a LCSW and is also a psychology instructor at KC.

There will be two seminars featuring Rushing set for 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, and 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in the conference room on the second floor of the library.

Rushing will cover topics including common misconceptions of social work, little-known facts, personal experiences and the required education to become a LCSW.

Seminars are open to KC students, prospective students and the public. Space is limited, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early.

Employees from the KC Counseling Center will attend the seminars to answer questions about career exploration options.

About the “A Day in the Life” seminars at KC:

The series features guest speakers from various occupations to give current and prospective students a clear understanding of what it is like to work in certain career fields.

“We noticed that not all students know what is involved with day-to-day duties of specific occupations. In fact, some students choose educational paths based on incomplete assumptions of what the job entails,” said Tony Addie, library support specialist. “Then, they may learn that the work is not what they really want to do and end up changing majors.”

Addie said the goal of the seminars is to help students decide what type of education to pursue.

“We want to educate students with information about certain careers so they have the foresight to pursue an appropriate career path,” Addie said.

About Tina Rushing, LCSW:

Rushing earned a Master of Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington.  She worked full-time as a social worker for 10 years before beginning work at KC in 2000.  While teaching, she has continued to practice as a social worker and has a counseling office in Longview.
