Brookshire Grocery Co.’s 15th WWII Heroes Flight Veterans Reunite

Tyler, Texas, Nov. 13, 2017 – More than 20 World War II veterans and 175 of their family members gathered at the Bossier Civic Center Friday to reunite and celebrate Brookshire Grocery Co.’s 15th Heroes Flight, which took place in September. The Company provided dinner and presented the veterans, mostly from the Shreveport-Bossier area and East Texas, with a documentary of their trip on DVD, a memory book, and a CD with more than 500 pictures.

Guests were joined by Bossier Mayor Lo Walker and Brookshire Grocery Co. Chairman and CEO Brad Brookshire, as well as the Company volunteers who assisted the veterans during the trip. The program included viewing the documentary.

Brookshire Grocery Co.’s WWII Heroes Flight is an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., provided by the Company to honor veterans for their service and sacrifices. BGC has taken more than 400 veterans from Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas to Washington, D.C., since establishing the Heroes Flight program in 2010.

“It is our honor to provide a memorable trip for WWII veterans to thank them for their bravery and sacrifices to defend our freedoms,” Brookshire said. “It was great to see the veterans reunite on Veterans Day weekend and to hear stories of the memories that were made on our Heroes Flight trip.”

The 15th Heroes Flight took place Sept. 21-23 and included visits to the WWII Memorial, U.S. Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery and the Air and Space Museum, along with the Navy, Air Force, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., and the Vietnam and Korean War Veterans memorials.
