COMMERCE – Texas A&M University-Commerce head soccer coach Neil Piper has announced the addition of three players on National Signing Day 2018.

Defender/midfielder Amber Crews, goalkeeper Cassie Hurley, and forward/midfielder Karissa Rulander will join the Lions for the 2018 fall season.

"Overall the class is smaller than usual because we return many talented players," Piper said. "I would expect to add three or four more players to this group as we progress."

Crews comes to Commerce from Lewisville High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Fighting Farmers. The 5-foot-6 defender/midfielder scored three goals as a defender in 2017 and was named First Team All-District as a sophomore and a junior. Lewisville is in the midst of its season, and Crews was named varsity captain as a senior.

"Amber is a good defensive-minded player who is very athletic and is good in the air. She can play either central defense or in the midfield and fits well with our system," Piper said.

Hurley joins the Lions from Horn High School in Mesquite, where she is a three-year letter winner in soccer and one-year letter winner in bowling for the Jaguars. She was named District Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore and Second Team All-District as a junior. Hurley earned All-Academic honors as both a sophomore and a junior and was named team captain prior to her senior.

"Cassie is goalkeeper with good size who is pretty mobile. She is a player with huge upside and I anticipate her competing for playing time," Piper said.

Rulander is a four-year letter winner in soccer at Clear Falls High School, where she started all four years at forward. She scored 15 goals as a freshman, had four goals and four assists as a sophomore, and two goals and seven assists as a junior. She was named Newcomer of the Year, All-County Honorable Mention, and Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman. As a sophomore, she was a candidate for the VYPE Houston Player of the Year and was named Second Team All-District. She was named First Team All-District and Academic All-District as a junior.

"Karissa is a fast wing player on the left side, who can play up front or at the back. She will have an immediate effect on our team," Piper said.
