Ore City Fun Festival starts Friday

The 37th Annual July 4th Fun Festival will kick off at 7:30 p.m. Friday with the introduction of the 2009 Miss Ore City Fun Festival Queens.

A barn dance featuring Paul Hamilton, Jerry Haymes and other well known musicians will begin at 8 p.m., continuing until midnight, with a break at 10 p.m. for a giant fireworks show.

On Saturday a parade begins downtown at 9 a.m. This year’s Grand Marshal is Kelly René Breazeale from Australia.

Following the parade Lynn Alexander will sing the National Anthem and CheyAne Smith will sing God Bless the USA at the bandstand.

Gospel singing begins at 10 a.m., continuing until 2:30 p.m. at the bandstand. The Lewis Family from Kilgore will open the program, followed by David’s Song of Tyler at 10:25 a.m., Joyful Noise of Ore City at 11 a.m., Voice of Truth of Ore City at 11:20 a.m., Pearlie Montgomery at noon, David’s Song at 12:20 p.m., The Lewis Family at 1 p.m. and Joyful Noise at 1:40 p.m.

All groups and audience singing will be held from 2 to 2:30 p.m.

At 10:30 a.m. a proclamation will be read and dedication of flags honoring all veterans will be held in the park area.

Games for the children and other activities are also planned.They include a Horseshoe Tournament at 9 a.m.; Water Balloon War and Haystack Scramble at 10 a.m.; Sack Race at 11 a.m.; Broad Jump at 11:30 a.m.; Tug-O-War at noon; Bubble Blowing Contest at 12:15; Softball Toss at 12:30; Pea Shelling Contest at 1 p.m. and Watermelon Eating Contest at 1:30 p.m.

There will be hourly drawings for door prizes. You must sign up each hour at the bandstand area.

The drawing for the grand prize of $500 will be held at 1 p.m. Tickets will be on sale for $1 each until 12:30 p.m.

Tater and the Clowns will be visiting in the park area throughout the day.

Food concession booths and Mini Flea Market booths will be located next to the Fire Station.

Everyone is invited to bring lawn chairs and enjoy good food, entertainment and fellowship.
