District 5830 Governor Steve Brown presented the assistant district governor, David Stevenson, and President Randy Hill of the Gilmer Club with a Rotary International Presidential Citation Award. Out of the 45 clubs in District 5830, only 17 received this award.
President Hill presented the Outstanding Rotarian Award for 2008-2009 to Jim Eitel. Eitel had served as program chair and had been responsible for getting the Rotary programs each week.
Hill presented the Rotarian of the Year award to Pete Herrmann. Herrmann has served on the board of directors and been instrumental in building membership in the Rotary Club by serving as membership chair. He also is very active in the Rotary International program and working with Rotary Exchange students.
President Hill expressed his appreciation to the members and the board for their service and said that it had been a great year.
He talked about the various projects throughout the year that Rotary had been involved in, including the Yamboree, Chili Cookoff, Barbecue, Scholarships, the Student Exchange program, Spelling Bee for Literacy and his favorite, the dictionary project. Each school year, the Gilmer club distributes free dictionaries to all Gilmer-area 3rd-graders.
Assistant Dist. Gov. Stevenson invited President Hill to turn the gavel over to the incoming president, Tim Marshall. Hill presented to his successor the president’s pin that has been in the Rotary club for more than 50 years.
Stevenson and Marshall thanked Hill for his service and presented him with a plaque and gavel as outgoing president.
In brief remarks, President Marshall said he was looking forward to a great year for the club.The meeting was ajourned with the reciting of the Rotary Four-Way Test.
