We CAN unite as we did side by side serving our country. I am asking you to join us in making a difference.
Our fellow veterans, children, grandchildren, and community need us to help in bringing families back to the front porch, dinner table, & pride in country, let’s work together to accomplish this.
As the 3rd District Commander, finance officer of the American Legion Post 281 Gladewater, a veteran and the widow of two Nam vets, I know first hand the importance of our benefits and how very easily they can be lost due to lack of support. We need your help in making things happen. Such work as community awareness, working with our police, fire, and rescue, our scouts, every house should share the pride in flying the Flag, but first understand what that flag truly stands for. Together we can do this without severing ties of any other organizations. Help us make a difference and strengthen the Patriotism and Americanism that so many are trying to destroy these days.
The American Legion is the oldest wartime veteran’s organization as it was established in 1919. We hold a seat in Congress, have and have had a strong voice as to our benefits. We are in need of individuals like yourself that believe our families should be able to get together and enjoy the benefits of freedom. One of our programs assists our injured veterans returning from foreign soil to get back on their feet. We also have over 250 programs that will put us in the schools of our children and grandchildren and teach them the importance and understanding of ‘Old Glory’. The Constitution of the United States, and will give many of our youth an opportunity to obtain scholarships, others will learn first hand what our government is doing and why. Our youth that enjoy sports can again obtain scholarships and be seen by scouts for the major leagues through programs already in place by the American Legion Baseball program.
The American Legion is a FAMILY organization; the wives, children (male & female), and grandchildren have a very important place in the Legion. The American Legion Riders Chapters have raised over a million dollars for our veterans in just the few years they have been formed.
If you still get that lump in your throat when our National Anthem or Taps is played, or when our Flag is waving in the air, then YOU are the individual that will make a true difference in this organization. I assure you there are many individuals like yourself that will join in the efforts of making a difference in your community. There is much need for visitation to nursing homes, and hospitals to maintain the histories of the past wars and begin to understand the present wars.
Our soldiers have made time for us, step up and make time for them.
You did not have to have served in country, just during a time of war or conflict and received an honorable discharge. There will be American Legion representatives from the Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the Legion, and the American Legion Riders present for answering your questions.
If you need more information in the meantime do not hesitate to e-mail me at: ladilegionnaire@yahoo.com, PHONE: 903 806 2900.
Thank you for your service! Look forward to meeting you.
Linda M. Reed is 3rd District Commander of the American Legion.
