Stephen F. Austin State University hosted a contest featuring 17 military-style marching bands from seven Texas UIL Music Regions on Oct. 31.

The event was sponsored by the National Association of Military Marching Bands.

Upshur County schools participating included Union Grove and New Diana.

Union Grove earned a trophy for superior performance and first place ranking in the Class 2-A division.

New Diana earned second place ranking in the Class 2A division.

These bands did an outstanding job carrying on the military tradition of fundamental marching techniques and performing to traditional military march music.
