A public forum for Republican candidates for Upshur County public office and county GOP chairman is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Gilmer Civic Center.

The Republican Women of Upshur County club is sponsoring the event, said organization President Rhonda Pope. The public is invited and admission is free.

A 3-member panel will question the candidates in the March 2 GOP primary.

It includes longtime Gilmer free-lance newspaper journalist and businessman Phillip Williams; Longview News-Journal reporter Christina Lane; and Joyce Hugman of Gladewater, representing the GOP women’s club.

Screened questions from the audience will also be permitted, said Miss Pope.

Barbara Vogl will moderate the event.

Candidates for these public offices were invited, Miss Pope said: county judge, county clerk, Pcts. 2 and 4 county commissioner, and Pcts. 1 and 3 justice of the peace.
