This is a rescheduled appearance from their previous date which had to be postponed due to a tragedy within the group. First Baptist Church Pastor Tony Watson says the previous cancellation was unavoidable. "During their spring tour to Texas, one of the members of the Renaissance Quartet, Anna Pirtle, became very ill. She was admitted to a hospital in Burleson with pneumonia and unfortunately she passed away a few days later. She was 24 years old. While it has been a tough road for the group and for other students at Bethel University, they are pressing on and felt the need to come and share with the churches where they were unable to fulfill their commitments that week. Our church has prayed for Anna's family and the group and we are thankful for the opportunity to hear their music and to put faces and names with our prayers," said Watson.
The Renaissance Quartet is from Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee. The students are on scholarship as a part of the Renaissance music program and present high-quality Southern Gospel Quartet music. They won the group talent search at the National Quartet Convention in 2009 and some of the members are planning to pursue a career in southern gospel music. They are led by Matthew Holt, formerly of The Perrys, who plays piano and sings lead.
The public is invited to this special service at First Baptist Church, located at 212 Dallas Street in Winona.
