Guilty Plea & Sentencing set for Erika Alaniz in the April 2008 death of Dalia Jimenez & injury to Orlandrus “OL” Oliver.

WHEN: Wednesday – May 26th 9am

WHERE: 188th District Court, Longview, Tx (Gregg Co.)

Judge David Brabham presiding

WHAT: On April 25th 2008, Orlandrus “OL” Oliver was struck on SH 31 in Gregg County by a 19 year old alleged drunk driver, Erika Alaniz. OL, who was a recruiter for Texas State Technical College at the time, had just left a baseball game. DPS reports show that Alaniz, who had been drinking, was speeding on a wet roadway, attempted to change lanes and lost control of her vehicle. Alaniz’s vehicle crossed over the median and struck the vehicle OL was driving. The crash broke both of OL’s legs and arms, his hip, pelvis and two ribs. Dalia Jimenez, who was a passenger in Alaniz’s vehicle, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Erika Alaniz has agreed to plead guilty to the charges and put her fate in the hands of Judge Brabham for sentencing. OL will be available for comment following the hearing. MADD East Texas will be present to support the victims of this 100% preventable crime. For further details on the case please contact the Gregg County DA’s office at 903-236-8440.

Erika's friend:

I do know this Erika has YET to reach out to me or Dalia's family to extend her sorrow. She has not changed. Remember I was the one that saw her drinking after the wreck. So if that's the sign that she's changed since the wreck....that's the wrong direction! You say 8 years is TOO much time? Dalia got death and I got life (a life of pain)at the hands of Erika. You're RIGHT 8 years is not fair, it's a slap on the wrist. If she were released I'm confident she'll do it again and you are too. The justice system wasn't created to extend mercy it was to render judgement for those that have committed a crime. And for her neglect & lack of judgement she is exactly where she deserves until she understands the severity of what she did.

No1 deserved this and no1 expected this to happen. YES we all make choices but we are all only humans, teenagers will only be teenagers. I feel like every1 judged Erika without even knowing who she is. We all love and miss DJ, she will always be missed and as for OL he has been thru some pain but what about Erika...she has to live with this as well. It's not fair for dj's family but god always has his ways.

Is it fair that the family of the deceased has to live their life without their loved one? I think not. The decision that was made by the driver to get into the car and drive impaired took a life. Is 8 years really long enough, especially when the family no longer has their loved one? She may have changed since the crash. But she still deserves her punishment, regardless of the changes she has made. Maybe next time she will think twice about driving impaired and save a life that could be her own.
